Dr. Ronald Lee "Ron" Jackson, 71, passed away on April 11, 2022 surrounded by his family.

He was born on September 27, 1950 in Lumberton, NC.

Ron attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he graduated with a degree in Political Science. Shortly after graduation he and Rebecca moved to San Diego, California where he attended law school and received his Juris Doctor degree.

He was an ardent supporter of underrepresented groups and used his expertise in law to advocate for migrant farm workers through the California Rural Legal Assistance program. After several years of practicing law, Ron and Rebecca moved to Atlanta where he attended Emory University and received his Ph.D. in Philosophy. Ron spent the remainder of his career as a professor of Philosophy at Clayton State University. He retired as Professor Emeritus.

Ron is remembered by his family and friends as someone who was infinitely loving, kind-hearted and attentive. He was a wonderful husband, like a brother to his extended family, and a doting grandfather, known as "Didz" to his grandchildren who loved his silly side, who he adored and loved to spend time with, especially at Holden Beach. He had a deep knowledge of world affairs, loved music, and was a champion of environmental causes. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of sports and was especially passionate about Tar Heel basketball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Esther Jackson and Kennith Jackson of Lumberton, NC.

Ron is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rebecca Jackson; his two children, Kennith Jackson (Pringle) and Risha Doster (Stokes); five grandchildren: Alden Jackson, Frances Jackson, Stokeson Doster, Collins Doster, and Parker Doster; and his sister, Pam Bodiford.

The funeral services will be held in Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 East Fifth St., Lumberton in the chapel. The burial services will be held at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton.
