Services for Virgil E. Cooper, 66, Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary with the Rev. Richard Todd officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence.
Mr. Cooper died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1993, at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.
He was born Jan. 18, 1927, in Topeka, the son of Elmer R. and Bertha LaDuke Cooper. He was a retired supervisor for the Kansas Turnpike Authority in Lawrence. He had retired on Feb. 1, 1992, after 20 years. He formerly owned the Rock Chalk Cafe in Lawrence until 1968.
Mr. Cooper was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence, the B.P.O.E. No. 595 in Lawrence and the Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion. He was an honorary member of the Alpha Kappa Lambda social fraternity.
Mr. Cooper married Peggy Tuttle on August 21, 1948, in Kansas City, Kan. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Gary, Baton Rouge, La.; a daughter, Vicki Ann Butler, Burrton; and four grandchildren.
