John Gustavus Gibson, known as Gus to his friends and families, was born August 12, 1924, in Choctaw County, Alabama, and died April 9, 2022, in Talladega County, Alabama. Gus will be remembered and loved by many.
He leaves behind his wife of many years, Emily Johnson Gibson; his daughter, Vicki Adams; his step-children, Earl Bufford and Jane Sanders; grandchildren, Kerry and Sarah Adams, Shanna Blair, Christy Giles, Ashleigh Allgood, Michael Bufford, Brandi Bufford, and Cody Bufford; 9 Great-Grandchildren; and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren. His family meant everything to him.
Gus was a very loving and accepting person. He was a man of faith and let Godly principles lead him throughout his life. He was a long time member of McCoy United Methodist Church in Anniston, Alabama. He was mild-mannered and patient. But, his intelligence and keen sense of humor stood out. He had many interest and accomplishments. He was a Master Mason, a Shriner, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star; as well as a member of Sons of Confederate Soldiers.
Gus was especially proud of his service to his country. During World War II, he served in General Patton's 3rd Army in Germany, Belgium, England, and France. He felt privileged to have served in such an important part of history.
Gus attended and graduated from Choctaw County High School. He continued his education at Jacksonville State University where he earned a degree in chemistry. This led to a 30 year career at the Regional Medical Center in Anniston, Alabama, where he worked as the lead chemist in the lab.
Besides being a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather, he was a friend, gardener, fisherman, hunter and bee keeper. His friendship, care, encouragement and graciousness meant so much to so many. He will truly be missed by all.
Pallbearers: Joey Gibson, Richard Tindle, Judson Gibson, Mel Brunson, Philip Adams, and Alan Singleton.
Arrangements by Bumpers Funeral Home of Butler.
