Kenneth Carl Stephens, age 85 of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2021. He was born in Flint on January 16, 1936 to Charles and Lora Stephens. Following his honorable discharge from the United States Army, Ken was employed at General Motors in Flint where he served as a UAW representative; he retired in 1985.

He married Marie Rice in Flint in October of 1961, she preceded him in death in October 1998. Ken married Mary Ann Caterino of Reed City in 1999, she preceded him in death in 2011.

Kenneth was a longtime member of the Mecosta County Sheriff's Posse serving several years as captain. He also was a member of the Eagles Aerie 2535 and the AMVETS Post 1941. Kenneth was well known for playing country music at local nursing homes and the annual Eagles musician's party. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Jamie Kailing, and two sisters.

Kenneth is survived by a daughter, Susan Stephens of Mt. Pleasant; a son, Kirk (Monica) Stephens of Linden; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Darrell (Kathy) Stephens of Arkansas, Jack Stephens of California; nieces, nephews and many good friends including Edee Cady; Char and Ernie Hileman and family, all of Big Rapids.

Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Reverend Kaye Ferguson-Patton officiating. Military Honors will take place under the auspices of the American Legion post 98 of Big Rapids. The family will greet friends on Friday, October 15th at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Kenneth will be laid to rest at Forest Hill Cemetery in Evart.
