Sara received her BS in Nursing from Temple University, being part of the last cadet nursing class to graduate during World War II. She worked as head of the emergency clinics at Bethlehem Steel Co. in Johnstown, PA for several years. Then after moving to Lancaster, she worked as a Relief Nurse at the dispensary for the former Sperry New Holland, now Ford New Holland.
An active member of Highland Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, and was one of the original members, she volunteered with the Hospitality Committee. Upon her husband's death, Sara devoted even more of her time to these functions at the church. An avid sports fan and known for her cooking talents, she also was a long time player in various bridge groups.
She was the loving mother of Jill, wife of Tracy Prentice of Franklin, TN, step-mother of John C. Austin of Lancaster, grandmother of three, and sister to Helen Ferguson of Littleton, CO.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Life Celebration in a Memorial Service to be held at Highland Presbyterian Church, 1801 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, PA. on Monday at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Dr. Lawrence R. Chottiner officiating.
A private family inurnment will be held in the Highland Church Memorial Garden.
The family will receive friends immediately following the services in a luncheon to be held in the church parlor.
