Following his honorable discharge from the Army he completed his schooling at Park College, a Presbyterian college near Kansas City, Missouri, and at McCormick Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois.
He served as pastor of churches in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee. He served as an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church more than 25 years. He served many years as Teaching Pastor for Pittsburgh Theological Seminary students. After retirement he served as an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church fourteen years and seventeen years as hospital Chaplin at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
He married Lucille Bockman Robertson May 23, 1948 in the First Presbyterian Church in Cookeville. In addition to his wife, his family includes a son and daughter-in-law: David L. and Neda Helms Robertson of Hornbeck, Louisiana; niece: Wanda Livesay Jared of Cookeville; great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, 3-great great great nephews; and several cousins.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Cookeville First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Michael McLaughlin officiating. Interment with military honors followed in Cookeville City Cemetery.
