Ronald "Ron" Albert Harris passed away on April 7, 2022, from complications of a stroke. He was born March 9, 1937, in Worcester, Massachusetts, to Walton and Ruby Eaton Harris. Ron received his high school diploma from Dracut High School in 1956. During high school, he developed his love for sales, selling milk door to door and then selling math textbooks to schools. After high school, Ron served in the United States Air Force, including time spent on an Air Force base in Japan. During his time in the Air Force, he would tell you that he became an excellent bowler, chess player, and enjoyed touring Japan by motorcycle. After an honorable discharge, Ron graduated with a degree in English Literature from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. After college, he pursued a Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Wisconsin—Madison.

Ron met his wife at the University of Wisconsin and they were married in Calvary, Georgia in 1967. Ron began with vision difficulties in his late twenties, ultimately leading to legal blindness in his thirties. Upon moving to Tallahassee, Florida in 1971, Ron began a career in real estate. Ron founded Traders Realty, managing several rental properties, and buying and selling mortgages. He was well supported by his executive secretary for more than forty years.

Ron will be remembered for his tenacity, his creativity, his dramatic flourish, and his desire to help others. He loved listening to audiobooks and music, trips to St. George Island, eating [his wife's] gourmet cooking, watching and listening to FSU sports, and spending time with his family and good friend from childhood, Danny Cunha. Ron never let his disabilities prevent him from living life to the fullest.

The family is especially grateful for the excellent medical care Ron received from Capital Health Plan. Lastly, they are grateful for the home health care provided to him.

Ron is predeceased by his parents and his younger brother, Kenneth Harris, his younger sisters, Marilyn Harris and Louise Jardin. He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years; his daughter, [and her husband] of Raleigh, NC, and their children; his son of Durham, NC and their children; and his sister, of Dracut, MA.

The family will be receiving guests for a visitation at Bevis Funeral Home of Tallahassee on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 from the hours of 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. with a graveside service at Roselawn Cemetery to follow at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ronald and Natholyn Harris Endowed Scholarship Fund at the FSU Foundation.

Breanna Green of Bevis Funeral Home is assisting the family with their arrangements.
