David Reeves Boggs (June 17, 1950 - February 19, 2022)

David Reeves Boggs is considered one of the two creators of the Ethernet, the computer networking technology that connects PCs to printers, other devices and the internet in offices and homes. He worked with Bob Metcalfe (living in March 2023), beginning in 1973 when Boggs was a graduate student at Stanford University. Obituaries in the New York Times on 28 Feb 2022 and in other publications describe their work on the Ethernet in detail.

Boggs' wife, Marcia Bush, said his death, at Stanford Hospital, was caused by heart failure. He was born on June 17, 1950, in Washington, D.C., and spent parts of his early childhood in Kentucky, Kansas, and other places across the country. His father, James Boggs, was a finance officer in the U.S. Army whose job required him to move with his family to a new post every few years. After his parents divorced, David Boggs grew up in Washington with his mother, Jane (McCallum) Boggs, and his older brother, Walter. David Boggs earned his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering at Princeton University before starting at Stanford, where he eventually received both a Master's degree and a Ph.D., also in Electrical Engineering.
His wife and brother are his only immediate survivors.

Bogg's mother, Jane (McCallum) Boggs, was born on 20 Aug 1922 and died on 7 Nov 2013 in Washington, D.C., according to a brief funeral home obituary.
