Jose "Joe" Luis Vargas, age 66, of Ligonier, IN passed away Thursday, April 7, 2022, at home. He was born on April 22, 1955, the son of Pablo and Paula (Rodriguez) Vargas. On November 11, 1978 he married Dorfelinda (Vickie) Vargas.
He is survived by his wife of over 43 years, Dorfelinda (Vickie) Vargas of Ligonier; three sons Jose L. (Elena) Vargas, Jr., Joshua L. (Angela) Vargas, and Jacob L. (Emily) Vargas all of Ligonier; nine grandchildren Julia, Jadon, Liliana, Logan, Layla, Jonah, Julius, Emmett, and Olivia. His brothers Rafael Vargas, Pablo Vargas, Jr, and Daniel Vargas. His sisters Alicia Vargas and Esmeralda Galindo, all of Harlingen, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Manuel Vargas.
Joe owned and operated Letis Tacos, alongside his beloved wife Vickie, in Ligonier for nearly 18 years
He served as Attendance Officer at West Noble Community Schools, for 16 years
As an extension of his Christian faith, Joe served as a Worship Leader for 35 years. He attended Strong Tower Worship Center in Ligonier, IN.
Joe's love for music led him to pursue a degree in Music Theory at IPFW and become a performing member of The Fort Wayne Philharmonic. Joe's love for music was evident to many but only overshadowed by his enduring love for Vickie, his three boys and his nine grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held for Mr. Vargas on Tuesday April 12, 2022 at 2pm at Strong Tower Worship Center, 502 W Diamond Lake Rd, Ligonier, IN 46767. His three sons will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery. Family and friends will be received at Strong Tower Worship Center on Sunday, April 10, 2022 from 4-8 pm and also on Monday April 11, 2022 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm.
