William Edward Horton, 79, of Monroe, NC, after a brief illness died early Friday morning, April 8, 2022.

Mr. Horton was born in Richmond, Virginia, July 4, 1942, to the late
Ed and Margie (Lawrence) Horton
Marriage Date: 29 Jul 1936
Divorce Date: 19 Sep 1973

He is preceded in death by his beloved sister, Sadie Marie Williams and his son-in-love, Randy L. Powell.

A service to celebrate Mr. Hortons life will be at 11:00AM, Wednesday, April 13, 2022 in Gordon Chapel with Reverend Alban S. Burney officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112. Entombment will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfork VA.

Mr. Horton was a former member of Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Virginia and was a faithful member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Wadesboro, NC, where he was a Trustee of the church and was in the Culinary Ministry and Van Ministry, as well as a member of the Men's Choir. He was also a member of local 1248 ILA and served on the Meals on Wheels Committee for many years.

Mr. Horton is survived by his loving wife of 62 years,

Virginia, and Amy D. Mitchell, of Charlotte, NC and her husband, Charles Ron;

Grandchildren:
Tara Lynn Horton, MSGT. Vanesa Mungo and James, Evan C. Mungo, Charles L. Medley II, and his fiancé Krystal, Mya C. Smith and her fiancé Darryl and Nazirah Y. Ahmad;

Six great-grandchildren; godson, Darryl Burrus.
