Rebecca was born August 25th, 1933 in Morriston, Florida to Edward and Annie Mikell. She
grew up in a large and loving family on a farm in Morriston where she could often be found
sneakily eating peanuts out of sight of her father. She discovered her life's passion after
watching a nurse tend to her sister's childhood injury. She would later go on to attend the
University of Florida where she graduated with her degree in Nursing. A true Florida girl through
and through, she had a life long love of Gator Football and boiled peanuts.
While raising her five children, she spent over 30 years working at Tacachale Center for the
Developmentally Disabled where her patients grew to love her as she did them.
Rebecca was known by many names; Winnie, Aunt Mike, but most notably- "Granny". She was
a loving grandmother to not only her many grandchildren, but those who came to know her well.
She is preceded in death by her brothers: Alvin, Louis, and Newell Mikell. Sister Dorcus Moody
as well as her Daughter Susie Hood and Grandson Chad Hood. She is survived by siblings
Dayton (Violet) Mikell and Annie Warrick. Children Janice Garner, Clyde Mallard, Paula (Kyle)
O'Connor, and Naleta Roberts. Left in mourning are also 14 grandchildren and 6
great-grandchildren.
Rebecca was a long time member of Church of Christ and had a deep love for the Lord. She
passed peacefully at her home in Gainesville, with loving family by her side. She will be missed
dearly.
