Lakewood Citizen, Friday December 20,1935:

"Mrs Alice Ayers, sixty one, of Island Heights, former postmistress at that place, died at the home of Mrs Thomas Haley, Cherry Street, last Saturday. Mrs Ayers is survived by one son, Lester, of Island Heights.

Funeral service was held on Tuesday at the Anderson funeral parlors in Toms River, and burial made in Riverside Cemetery".

Funeral of Mrs. Alice P Ayres
Toms River, Dec 17 – Funeral services were being held today for Mrs. Alice Potter Aumack Ayres, 67, Island Heights, who died Saturday of complications. The services were held in the Charles p Anderson funeral home here.

Mrs. Ayres was a former postmaster at Island Heights and a school teacher. She was the widow of Allie Ayres who died in 1930. She is survived by one son, Lester.

The Rev J. Mervin Pettit, Episcopal rector was to be in charge of the services. Internment was to be made in Riverside cemetery.
