William J. "Bill" Carr of Denver, PA was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who passed away on March 21, 2022 just shy of his 89th birthday, surrounded by his family and loyal cat Koko, after a brief bout with liver cancer. He was married for 53 years to Lorraine (nee Applegate), who sadly passed away last year. Together they raised 5 children: Mark Carr (Stephanie); Lorraine Clayton (late William); William J. Carr, Jr. (Eileen); James Carr (Wendy); and Elizabeth Patterson (Brian).

He will be missed by his grandchildren Sarah, Thomas and Catherine Carr; Mary Coleman (Brett) and William Clayton; William J. Carr, III and Brian Carr; Christopher and Caitlyn Carr (fiancé Justin Marcocelli); and Connor Patterson; his great-grandchildren Olivia Carr, Amelia and Blake Coleman; his loving sisters Patricia M. Carr and Elizabeth D. Carr; nephews Edmund Applegate (Jennifer) and Michael Applegate (Lauren); great nieces Kacie and Emmy Applegate; and in-laws Edmund and Katherine Applegate and Anthony and Mary Applegate.

Bill was the son of the late James Joseph, a native of County Down, Northern Ireland, and Mary (McVaugh) Carr. He was preceded in death by his brother James (late Agnes). A true Philadelphian, he grew up in the Brewerytown and Wissahickon Hills neighborhoods, graduated from St. Elizabeth's grade school, Roman Catholic High School (where he lettered in track and field) and St. Joseph's University. He spent the summers of his youth in Anglesea, North Wildwood, NJ. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War era, he then spent 37 years working as a purchasing agent for the Department of Defense. He married Lorraine and moved to Roxborough in 1968 before retiring to Denver in 1991 to enjoy the quiet country life, and where he became a part of the local community while working part-time to keep busy at Goodwill, Weaver's Market and the Wine and Spirits Shop.
We will miss him but take solace in knowing that he is reunited with the love of his life. And because Heaven is paradise, we suspect that right after watching his childhood idol "Concrete Charlie" Bednarik make that Championship-saving tackle for the Eagles at Franklin Field, Bill jumped into his Austin-Healey convertible with Lorraine at his side, Elvis on the radio, and is cruising 'downashore' to meet family and friends at Cozy Morley's club in North Wildwood to sing, dance and throw back some cold beers at a sun-splashed summer Sunday jam session…until we meet again!
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church located at 320 Church Ave., Ephrata, PA 17522. The family will greet guests at the church beginning at 10 a.m. All are invited to continue This Celebration of Life immediately afterward at Nonna Rosa's Kitchen located at 363 S. 7th St., Akron, PA 17501. So please bring a story, a photo, a song or a memory to share with us.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Fox Chase Cancer Center.
