Ruth Hood Bennett, 94, of the Grantham community died early Friday morning, April 1, 2022, at Rolling Ridge Assisted Living in Newton Grove.

Ruth was born in Wayne County on January 29, 1928, to the late Grover and Emma Rose Hood. She was married for 67 years to the late John Allen Bennett.

For over 50 years, Ruth was a member of Falling Creek Baptist Church and later began worshiping with her family at Selah Christian Church.

Family was of utmost importance to Ruth. Earlier years found Ruth visiting with her parents every Sunday afternoon, and conversations with her family occurred every day. Ruth's husband was her closest confidant, and her children were her heartbeat. When grandchildren came along, Ruth's heart expanded to provide them with more love than was fathomable.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Ruth's life at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary with Pastor Patrick Muston officiating. Interment will be in Wayne Memorial Park. At other times the family will be at the home of David and Sue Bennett in the Grantham Community.

Ruth is survived by four sons, David Allen Bennett (Sue), Clark Hood Bennett and Reed Owen Bennett, all of Goldsboro and Jack Rose Bennett (Nanette) of Newport, NC; and her brother, Manfred Hood and wife, Delores. She was also blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by a son, John Wayne Bennett; brothers, Durwood Hood, Gordon Hood, Joe Dan Hood, Jean Hood, James Hood and Horace Hood; sisters, Elizabeth Smith and Agnes Harrell.
