HOULKA - Dorothy "Dot" Davis Griffin, 88, left her earthly home on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo, She was born on September 28, 1933 in Pontotoc County to Alvis G. Hester and Ollie Mae Shempert Hester. Dot was well known and well loved in her hometown of Houlka. She was a high school graduate that raised her six children before returning to school to earn her associate's degree LPN. Dot worked for many years at North MS Medical Center and Trace Regional Hospital. She cherished the last fifteen years of her career at NMMC Women's Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at 2:00 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Houlka with Brother Brian Thrasher and Brother Kevin Brown officiating. She will lie in state at Shiloh Baptist Church beginning at 12:00 noon until service time at 2:00. Burial will follow at Halsell Cemetery in Houlka. Visitation for family and friends will be at Shiloh Baptist Church on Wednesday, April 6 from 6:00 until 8:00. Southern Funeral Chapel of Houston is in charge of arrangements.
Dot is survived by her four daughters, Janice Smith of Woodland, Dianne Brown (Billy) of Houlka, Regina Hicks of Houston, and Melanie Hall (Tony) of Dennis; her two sons, Mike Davis (Beverly) of Houlka and Tony Davis (Deidre) of Cabot, AR: 12 grandchildren, Scott Smith (Sammie), Richard Brown, Roxanne Brown, Angel Griffin (Michael), Chris Davis (Annie), Amber Fontenot (Charlie), Brian Hicks (Emily), Kelly Hollis (Justin), Jeremy Washington, Tona-Claire Hall, Tara-Beth Brandon (Wesley), and Katie Davis; 20 great-grandchildren, Gregory Smith, Patrick Smith, Cade Brown, Denim Black, Makayla Brown, Heather Stevens, Blake Harper, Tristen Hargrove, Morgan Davis, Savannah Davis, Chaz Fontenot, Knox Fontenot, Parker Hicks, Will Hicks, Cooper Hicks, Claire Hicks, Eli Hollis, Paxtyn Hollis, Riley Easley, and Wyatt Washington; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-great grandchild.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Alvis G. Hester and Ollie Mae Shempert Hester; three brothers, Alton Hester, Ottis Hester, and Willis Lamar Hester; one sister, Annie Mae Sudduth; the father of her children, Walker Davis; her step-son, Mike Griffin; and two son-in-laws, Robert "Bob" Hicks and Terry J. Smith.
Pallbearers will be Scott Smith, Brian Hicks, Jeremy Washington, Justin Hollis, Wesley Brandon, and Denim Black. Honorary Pallbearers will be Chris Davis, Jimmy Sudduth and Lamar Hester.
