Dorothy was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a daughter of the late Ike and Eva Nelson Clark. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Curtis Malcolm Varner, Jr. who died in 1965; second husband, Ernest Melvin Carter, who died in 2002; daughter, Rhonda Warren; five brothers; three sisters; and a grandson, James Eric Singleton, who died in 2014. Dot was a 1951 graduate of Clyde High School and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She attended Oak Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Smith (Dale) and Deitra Sheppard (Brook), all of Canton; three step-daughters, Kay Free, Judy Smith and Linda Ledford; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 8, 2022 at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Matt Pruett officiating.
