Batesville - LONNIE BUREN KIDD, resident of Sardis lake Estates in Batesville, MS, died Monday, January 7, 2008 at his daughter's home in Memphis, TN after a long illness. Mr. Kidd was born in Union County, Mississippi on February 13, 1925. One of several children, he joined the army at the age of 17 and served in the 3rd Armored Division. He drove a tank during World War II in Europe and was wounded in Germany. He received the Purple Heart and was discharged in 1945. On December 22, 1945, he married Mary Frances Welch; they were married for 60 years until her death on January 15, 2005. Mr. Kidd retired from the Corps of Engineers in 1987. He leaves his loving children, Terry A. Kidd, Lonnie W. Kidd (Oma Starbuck), Don K. Kidd (Annette Patterson), Beverly Kidd Pressgrove (Vic); and five grandchildren, Jason Kidd, Brian Kidd, Brandon Kidd, Kevin Simms and Dallas Simms. In addition to his wife, Mary Frances, he was preceded in death by granddaughters, Erin Elizabeth Kidd and Holland Nicole Simms. Visitation for Mr. Kidd will be on Wednesday evening, January 9 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home in Millington, TN and the funeral service will be Thursday morning at 10 a.m. at the Northridge Woodhaven Chapel.
