Born Jan. 23, 1946, in Butler, he was the son of the late Weldon P. West and Gladys L. Cooper West. Ron was a 1963 graduate of Evans City High School, attended Thiel College, and earned his B.A. at college in 1967.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War as a military police officer (B. Btry., 6 Br. 56th Arty. Div.) in Nha Trang, South Vietnam, and participated in the Tet Offensive.
Ron was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Evans City and Trinity Lutheran Church in Butler. He was the owner and operator of the Ron West Agency for over 65 years.
He served on the boards of several community organizations including Jaycees, Easter Seals, the Butler County Board of Realtors and the BCC Golf Course Committee. Ron was a lifetime member of the Evans City Sportsman's Club. He was a loving and devoted family man, who will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Ron leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 51 years, Sandra Lee Lutz West, whom he married on May 30, 1970; his children, Jason C. (Sonja) West of Penn Township, and Amy R. West of Butler; his grandchildren, Emma G. West, Isabella G. West, Ava E. West, Anna Sophia C. West, Mia Kate C. West, and Lawson Cooper Neigh; his brother, John (Janice "Jan") West of Butler; his sister-in-law, Lynn V. West of California; and his nieces and nephews, Susan Berkel, Cynthia West, Steven West, Sara West, Greg W. West, Sharon Lee West and David W. West.
In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas West.
WEST - Friends of Ronald Ira West, who died Monday, March 28, 2022, will be received from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 3 p.m. Saturday at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER OF CONNOQUENESSING TOWNSHIP, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew, with Pastor Joel Benson of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Ron will be laid to rest at Butler County Memorial Park.
