James Robert Whitaker "Jimmy", 59, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at his home. A native of Alamance County, he was born August 10, 1961 to the late Grady Ralph Whitaker and Shirley Puckett Parker and was the loving husband to Kellie Kernodle Whitaker of the home. He was a member of Friendly Lane Baptist Church. Jimmy proudly served in the US Navy for 4 years until honorably discharged when his daughter was born. Jimmy was one of a kind and had a heart of gold. He would give you the shirt off of his back. Jimmy never met a stranger. He enjoyed piddling outside, hitting golf balls and fishing. Jimmy loved his grandbabies dearly. He enjoyed spending his spare time spoiling them with snacks and riding them around on the tractor and lawnmowers. He would spend his nights at home watching movies with the love of his life Kellie. Jimmy suffered from Parkinson's for 16 years, but he never let it keep him down. He fought hard all the way to the end when Jesus called him home. Survivors include his wife, Kellie; daughter, Crystal Whitaker Page and husband, John of Burlington; son, James Anthony Whitaker and wife, Anna of Burlington; grandchildren: Trey Whitaker, Hailey Page, Alaina Wingler, Ian Whitaker, and Hayden Page all of Burlington; five half brothers, two step brothers, and one step sister; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Howard Wayne Kernodle and wife Vivian. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, grand parents and a brother-in-law. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 12, 2021 at Friendly Lane Baptist Church and burial to follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors at Lowe Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm July 11, 2021 and other times at the home.
