Wife of Lloyd Leon Lusby.

Billboard Magazine, dated 26 Sept 1942, page 33: "Philip Darling, son of Mrs. Florence Darling Baldwin, has been promoted to second lieutenant in the Signal Corps."

Billboard Magazine, dated 7 November 1942, page 27: "BONHAM, Ezra Arthur, 72, father of Mrs. Florence Darling, formerly of the M'lle Florence high-pole act, in Los Angeles, October 22 following a long illness. He was born in Ontario. Burial in Inglewood Park Cemetery Oct 24. Survived by three daughters and a son."

Billboard Magazine, dated 6 March 1943, page 35: "Mrs. Florence Darling has heard from her son, Phillip, a second lieutenant, who is doing overseas service." This dated article shows that Florence and Lloyd were not yet married.

Billboard Magazine, dated 2 October 1943, page 37: "While Crafts 20 Big Shows were playing Vallejo Calif., a belated wedding party was held in the trailer home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Lusby, who had been married earler in the season during the shows' engagement in San Diego. She is the former Florence Darling, of the Darling Sisters aerial act. A dinner was served and numerous games were played. Guests included Mrs. Maybelle Crafts, Katheryn and Charlotte Warren, Mary Ludington, Ruth McMahon, Evelyn Lantz, Ruth Cooper, Donna Fleming, Olive Rutter, Francis Halin, Belva Green, Loa and Shirley Mason, Bettie Elby, Mickie Nelson, Goldie Lee, Gussie Kitchener, Helen Shell, Laura Benjamin, Myrtle Parodis, Mabel Munzo, Betty Sheppard, Eddy Gonzales and Carole Anne Warren."

After searching Google books, I found this short news bite in a Billboard Magazine, dated 13 Oct 1945, Vol 57, No. 40, page 59, second column (continued from page 47) under "PCSA":

"Mrs. Lloyd Lusby is anticipating the early discharge of her son, Phillip Darling, from the Army. He is now stationed in Panama. Mrs. Lusby recently held a 13-minute telephone conversation with him. And now the telephone company can split the earning of $49."

I have verified that the young man in the photo with Lloyd and Florence is her son, Lieut Phillip Darling. It appears in the Billboard Magazine, dated 29 December 1945, page 47 in a group of photos by Sam Abbott taken at the PCSA Ball in Los Angeles with their names beneath it.

Florence is mentioned several times in articles from the 1940's and remained active in the PCSA after Lloyd's death. She is mentioned in some Billboard Magazine articles in Nov 1949, Apr 1952 and again in Jul 1959.

News bite in Billboard Magazine dated 13 Nov 1948, page 76: "Florence Lusby left for New York to visit her sister."

Billboard Magazine dated 28 Nov 1953, page 92: "...has been named house chairman to succeed Florence Lusby, who has not bee feeling well."

Billboard Magazine, dated 3 April 1954, page 40: "DARLING, Denver, 65, veteran circus performer, March 19 in Rivera, Calif. Born Philip James Darling in Denver, he started in show business when 13 years old. He trouped with numerous circuses but was best known for his clown work and unsupported ladder specialty on the Barnum & Bailey and Sells-Floto circuses. Survived by a son, Philip. Funeral in Inglewood, Calif., March 22." Also beneath notice is a larger memorial: "In loving memory of Phil (Denver) Darling who passed away March 19, 1954...Mr. & Mrs. Phil Darling Jr. and Florence Darling Lusby."

The most interesting article is found in Billboard Magazine's 15 May 1954 issue, page 51: "...the Regular Associated Troupers, Los Angeles, netted $100 thru the party given by Ray and Daisy Marrion and Florence Lusby at the home of the Marrions....with the rigging set up in the yard... as an after-act, Florence Lusby, once on the big time, went up on the rings after a lapse of 16 years and presented her old routine."

Billboard Magazine, dated 19 August 1957, page 111: "Three early high-act performers had a reunion at Norwalk, Calif., recently. They are Florence Darling, Miss Cherrill and Marlo LeFors. All were with the Billy Collins act in the 1920's."

I am now searching for him to learn more about Florence, her background, and determine the correct dates for her and where she is buried. Update! Thank you Lisa for the location of her burial and photo of grave!
