Knoxville - Morton, Julie Anne (Judy) - passed away early Friday morning, April 1st, 2022. Born on July 5th, 1937, Judy was a generous philanthropist, an astute business executive, an avid bridge enthusiast and, following in her father's and grandfather's footsteps, a lifelong champion of The Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Judy was an elegant Southern lady who held tradition and custom in the highest regard. Whether hosting her close-knit supper club or an extravagant gala, she was carefully attentive to each detail and gracious to every guest. Yet she was also a fearsome female business executive and was selected by The Knoxville Journal as one of ten "women on the threshold" in 1985. Judy was vice president of The H.T. Hackney Company and served two terms as commissioner of the Metropolitan Airport Authority. She was appointed in 1985 by then-Governor Lamar Alexander to an advisory council overseeing the restoration of Tennessee's Capitol building in Nashville. She was also an active leader of several boards of directors and community organizations including the Knoxville Symphony Society, the Blount Mansion Association, the Knoxville Garden Club and many more.

She carried forward the Morton family's legacy of devotion to The Great Smoky Mountains National Park through active service on the Friends of the Smokies' board of directors for nearly thirty years. Judy found solace in the southern Appalachians and at various times in her life enjoyed homes in Highlands, North Carolina and at Lake Burton in Georgia. Yet she also loved time spent with friends in her Bahamian getaway on Harbour Island.

Judy's affection for animals was unparalleled. Her home, heart and pantry were opened to numerous abandoned dogs over the years, and it was her eccentric affection for her pet pigs which earned her local notoriety as the "Pig Lady".

She was preceded in death by her son Carl E. (Chubby) Campbell, Jr.; her parents, Julian and Ethel Morton; and her beloved brother Julian (Jan) Morton. Judy is survived by her son Julian Morton Campbell, her daughters Muffet Campbell Arroll (Richard) and Julieanne Campbell Foy (Michael), along with their father Carl Eugene Campbell; grandchildren Andy Pope, Macy Pope Starkes (Luke), Carl Campbell III, Julian Campbell, Slayton Campbell and Gavron Campbell. Particular sympathy is extended to her dear friend, Richard Petree of Sewannee, Georgia, and to her endearingly unattractive dogs, Pig and Pooh.

Funeral Service will be held at Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, April 5th, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Friends of the Smokies, Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church, or the charity of your choice.
