Charlotte Juavise (Wese) Bates Duncan

Charlotte would be 97 years of age on April 9th. She went to her heavenly home to be with our Lord and Savior on April 2nd, 2022.

Her lifelong legacy was teaching her family to love the Lord. She spent the last several years in Northport, Al to be near her family and recently relocated to Brookdale Senior Living in Miramar Beach, Fl where she entered into eternal rest. Widowed at the age of 17, left with two young children and grieving her late husband, Carson Glasgow, she managed to get a clerical degree in Birmingham, Al and moved to Huntsville, Alabama where she worked on the Redstone Arsenal, met and married her late husband, Tom Duncan . They spent 3 years in Germany before moving back to Phil Campbell where" Wese " was known for her ministry of baking homemade sourdough bread and baking decorative cakes to share with friends, especially those that were sick and elderly.

She also took pride in being the manager of the first Dollar General Store in the area and Director of Phil Campbell Senior Citizens Center for many years. She adored playing dominos , Rook and Bingo was a her favorite activity winning the majority of the time with her "Lucky Card"

The love of her life in her later years, was her longtime "man friend" Ralph Beckenbach, from Rhode Island, and her dog Doxie and her cat Snoopy.

A new tradition started for Wese and Ralph in 1983 when Hee Haw opened, which was live music, dinner and dancing every Friday night for years where she made lifelong friends such as Delene Bradford.

They were faithful and dedicated attendees and everyone could count on her homemade bread and Ralph's deviled eggs. She loved sharing food with her neighbors and friends, especially Bobby Swinney.

She was a member of the Eastern Star and a life long member of the PC United Methodist Church.. She was relentless in recruiting people to come to church and always asked if they could play the piano. Her passion for traditional church music and songs was relentless and bribed her younger daughter to play in church because she stated "its not right to sing a song without music"

She loved to entertain and everyone looked forward to her yearly Christmas parties with all the food and homemade desserts. Her Mama's antique punch bowl was the centerpiece and topic of conversation.

She was blessed with a healthy life and her spunky grit kept her walking and talking with her friends and family each day. She was a faithful and good servant of the Lord, read her bible and prayed everyday.

Celebration of her life will be Saturday, April 9th, 2022 at 12:00. Pastor Shane Swinney will officiate her Graveside service at Winston Memorial Cemetery in Haleyville,

*In honor of her favorite color, a pop of purple clothing is preferred.

Survivors include her daughter Carol Glasgow Hinkle, Hope Duncan Patterson, and her late son Samuel (Sam) Carson Glasgow

Grandchildren Michelle Berry, Anna Harbin, Michael Harbin, Daniel (Danny) Glasgow and great grandchildren.
