He was born May 27, 1949, in Cumberland, MD to the late Edward Thomas Lyons and Rita Ursula Mellott.
Chief Master Sergeant Lyons served our country in the United States Air Force for over 30 years, from 1969 to 1999. Among his many awards was an Army Medal of Achievement. After his retirement he served as a CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocate. In 1984, he was stationed at DAFB, then in 1998, he was married to Catharine Hazzard, in 2000, they moved to Smyrna together.
Mr. Lyons was a Volunteer for MMC, Asbury UMC Smyrna Church greeter. He enjoyed spending his free time outside in the yard, mowing grass, or putting around in the garage woodworking. Everyone that knew him agreed he was a master storyteller. He was very proud of his two grandsons and loved spending time with them. He also enjoyed traveling to the mountains of West Virginia and Western Maryland.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Lyons.
Mr. Lyons is survived by his wife of 23 years, Catharine Lyons of Smyrna; children, Christopher Patrick Lyons (Tiffani) of Lesage, WVA, Shannon Davis (Doug Norton) of Smyrna, Rian Davis of Magnolia, DE; niece, Rebecca Lyons; nephew, Bryan Lyons (Joelle); sister-in-law, Barbara Lyons of Cumberland, MD; and grandchildren, Spencer, and Jonathan, and great nephew Jackson.
Services will be held, 11:00am, Thursday April 7, 2022, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 20 W. Mt Vernon Street, Smyrna, DE. Friends may visit one hour prior. Interment will be held, 11:00am, Monday, April 18, 2022, at Delaware veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
