Born September 23, 1920 in Flint, MI to Guy and Anna Marie (Anderson) George, Leslie was the beloved husband of Doris M. (Sweet) George for 71 years. Leslie and Doris were married at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Morris on December 5, 1942. He is survived by his wife Doris, two sons, Leslie (Pamela), Ann Arbor, Paul (Carla), Ann Arbor, and one daughter, Mary Jane (Theodore) Bunker, Grand Blanc, his sister, Mary Ann (Bill) Hogan, Milan, six grandchildren, Stacey Aldred, David George, Suzanne George, Christine Simpson, Andrew Bunker, Catherine Hitt, nine great grandchildren, Brianna and Madelynn George, Andrew and Grace Simpson, Hannah Reish, Theodore and Charlotte Bunker, Chloe and Charles Hitt, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jack, and sisters, Shirley and Alversa. Leslie graduated from Mt. Morris High School in 1938, where he received the American Legion Award, and where he thoroughly enjoyed its debate team winning many debates. He attended the University of Michigan, graduated from General Motors Institute of Technology (GMI), and the Harvard Business School Executive Management Institute. During WWII, Leslie served his country with the United States Air Force in Goldsboro, NC, Denver, CO, and Midland, TX. Leslie served nine years on the Mt. Morris School Board of Education and ten years on the Genesee County Intermediate School Board of Education. He was appointed to the Michigan School Board of Education for three years in celebration of Michigan Week by the then Superintendent of Michigan Public Education. In 1955, Leslie became the northeastern Michigan regional sales manager for the Kimberly Clark Corporation. During this time, the Grocer Manufacturers Representatives of Eastern Michigan was organized and Leslie served as its president. In 1965, Leslie left Kimberly Clark to become the vice-president of E. W. Schmidt Co., in Ann Arbor, later known as The King Group with businesses in Ann Arbor and Flint. Leslie co-founded a software development company that provided IT services for wholesale convenience distribution companies. The software programs he developed became an industry standard and were marketed throughout the United States and Canada by Distributor Concepts, Ann Arbor. In 1994, Leslie was honored by the American Wholesaler Manufacturers Association for his service to the industry. As a hobby, Leslie always enjoyed repair work. When his three-year-old granddaughter discovered her table leg was broken she immediately said, "Grandpa fix." Leslie was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Morris, and the First Baptist Church in Ann Arbor, where he served on its Board of Deacons and Board of Trustees. Leslie supported the work of the American Red Cross and was a frequent blood donor. Leslie and Doris enjoyed traveling in Europe, the Middle East, and the Far East. They enjoyed many summers at their summer home on Lake Charlevoix with its beautiful sunsets and reflections. On Tuesday, July 1, there will be visitation at Muelhig Funeral Chapel in Ann Arbor from 2-8 PM. On Wednesday July 2, 2014, there will be a visitation from 10-11 AM, at the First Baptist Church in Ann Arbor with the service to follow at 11 AM, with burial at Flint Memorial Park, Mt. Morris, MI.
