Mr. Eugene "Gene" Willard Mitchell, Jr., 79, of Saluda, South Carolina, passed away on March 25, 2022.
Born on February 21,1943, in Saluda, South Carolina to Eugene Willard Mitchell, Sr. and Mildred B. Mitchell, Mr. Mitchell graduated from Saluda High School in 1961. He also graduated from the University of South Carolina, College of Business with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration-Management. He had a successful career in Senior management with Bell South and retired in 1995. He served on the Carolina Telco Federal Credit Union Board for many years and also chaired the Board of Directors from 1996-2002.
After moving back to Saluda, he was an active and dedicated member of Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church.
Once he retired, he continued to live a vibrant and full life. He had many passions that kept him active, including running, golfing, reading, traveling, maintaining his farm, and loving and serving in his community.
He will be remembered as a strong, courageous, loving and compassionate man whose zest for life and living it well inspired those who knew him. He lived life with great strength and independence and refused to be limited or defined by an age. He faced life's challenges head-on with faith and no fear.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of twenty-five years, Patti Mitchell of Saluda; his daughter, Julie Honeycutt of Myrtle Beach; his son, James Mitchell of Columbia; and his sister, Barbara Mitchell Palmer of Saluda.
Funeral services will be held at 11A.M, Friday, April 1stat Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church with Rev. Emily Mooneyhan officiating. Interment will follow in the Sardis Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends before the service at 10 A.M.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church, 101 N. Calhoun St., Saluda, South Carolina 29138 or to the charity of one's choice.
