John C Carroll, 87, a longtime Red Hook area resident, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2022 at his home in Tivoli, NY, surrounded by his family.

Born on June 17, 1934, in Queens, NY, he was the son of the late John and Frances (Hassett) Carroll.

A proud Marine, John served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952-1956.

John married Irene Voltz on May 25, 1957 at St. Mary Gate of Heaven Church in Ozone Park, NY. Irene predeceased him on December 16, 2013.

From 1964 until his retirement in 1993, John worked for IBM based in Kingston, NY and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. Previously he worked for Lockheed Aircraft Service International in NY, NY.

A longtime communicant of St. Christopher's Church in Red Hook, John served as an usher at Sunday Mass and a member of their Holy Name Society. He was a founding member of the St. Christopher's CYO Basketball program and tirelessly volunteered at bingo, monthly Sunday breakfasts, Hardscrabble and Apple Blossom days.

Always active, John enjoyed vacationing with his family at North Carolina's Outer Banks, lunch with his longtime friends, and playing golf in the Monday IBM Golf League since its inception.

He is survived by his children, Diane (William) Darling, Kelly (John) Collins, Lorraine (Brendan) Lawless, Jackie (Terry) O'Keeffe, Peggy (Patrick) O'Farrell, and John Carroll; his grandchildren, Meaghan Darling, Kate Collins, Daniel Collins, Michael Collins, Brendan Lawless, Christine Lawless, Dylan Lawless, Josh Lawless, Cory O'Farrell, Alley O'Farrell, Jack O'Farrell, and Will O'Farrell; along with extended family and friends.


In addition to his wife and parents, a sister, Ann Marie Carroll, and a brother, Richard Carroll, predeceased him.

Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 from 4 to 7 pm. Prayers will be offered at 6:30 pm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, April 7, 2022 at St. Christopher's Church, Red Hook, NY. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.

Memorial donations may be made in John's memory to the St. Christopher's Church, 7411 S. Broadway, Red Hook, NY 12571.
