Vicki Lynn (Miles) Russell, 58, passed away suddenly on March 30, 2022. She was a caring wife, mother, Nana, daughter, sister, and friend. She could be found gardening, enjoying the pool in the summer, playing her guitar or piano and singing. Most of all, Vicki loved being a Nana to her eight grandchildren.
Vicki was born in a blizzard to Edward and Carole Miles in Wilmington, Delaware. She was the third of four siblings whom she loved dearly. Vicki loved music, learning to play piano and guitar, which remained a lifelong passion. She attended and graduated Delcastle High School in 1981, where she studied horticulture, and shortly thereafter married the love of her life, her husband John.
After becoming a mother, Vicki devoted her days to raising and homeschooling their three children. She was an active mother, taking the kids on field trips, beach trips, and bike rides, until an accident left her with a chronic pain condition. Despite her health issues, she remained a devoted wife and mother and her family was her reason to persevere. Her faith in God guided much of her life and was a source of strength during her worsening health challenges of recent years.
The only thing she loved more than being a mother was being a Nana. She would have toys ready for any of the grandchildren to stop by and loved to spend time with them. Vicki made sure to be available for Facetime calls with her Florida-based grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, John Russell; her three children and their spouses, Carla and Evan Shows, Austin and Blair Russell, and Preston and Jessie Russell; and eight grandchildren, Tyler, Ethan, Alexis, Ephrem, Ainsley, Shane, Cameron, and Emily; her mother, Carole Miles; her siblings, Ed Miles, Cheryl Hampson, and Nancy Petrucci; and a number of beloved nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday evening, April 6 from 6-8 PM at the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd, Newark, DE 19702. Burial will be private at Gracelawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one of her favorite charities: Compassion International, Boys Town, and Samaritan's Purse.
