Alice May Dean McDonald, 79, passed away peacefully in Fort Worth on Wednesday, March 23, 2022.
Celebration of Life: 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2022, in the chapel of Church of the Incarnation, 3966 McKinney Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75204. A private interment will be held at Hilltop Cemetery in Carrollton.
Alice was born to W.A. and Evelyn (Forrester) Dean on October 28, 1942, in Denton, Texas. Alice cherished memories of her childhood spent with her brother, David, and cousins. The family was active in the Baptist Church and moved to Coppell when she was 15. It was during this time that she met J.R. McDonald. Alice and J.R. married at the First Baptist Church in Duncanville, Texas, on May 23, 1959. Alice and J.R. settled in Coppell, Texas, and Alice graduated from Grapevine High School in 1961. In 1962 Alice and J.R.'s son, James was born, followed by daughter, Judy, son, Jeff and daughter, Alice Faye. Alice enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom and was active in the Coppell PTA and in her children's activities. She was a fun mom and loved adventures. She helped J.R. get started in the dairy business in 1968.
In 1979, J.R. decided to relocate the dairy operation and the family to Hico, Texas. Alice decided to continue her education and graduated with a nursing degree from Tarleton State University in 1982, when she was 40 years old. Alice was a good student and loved learning. She worked as a registered nurse for 25 years in Fort Worth at John Peter Smith Hospital, Harris Hospital, Arlington MHMR and Home Health Services.
Alice was passionate about travel. Her favorite trips were to tropical islands. She loved the ocean and snorkeling. She had a green thumb and loved flowers, gardening, butterflies, and bird watching. She loved exploring the beauty of God's creation and learning about history and different cultures. Alice was artistic, independent, and enjoyed her life. She loved educational television and movies. She was friendly, fearless, and always ready for an adventure. She was a loving family member and friend and will be missed by all who knew her. Alice will be remembered for her determined attitude, her encouraging words, her fun-loving personality, and her love of nature.
Alice is survived by her sons, James, and Jeff McDonald; daughter, Judy Gasser and husband, Scott; daughter, Alice Donaldson and husband, Paul; her grandchildren, Jacob, Jessica, and Julia McDonald; Clayton, and Dustin Gasser; John McDonald; Rachel Donaldson Hughes and husband, Zach; Thomas Donaldson; her brother, David Dean and wife, Charlotte; her nephew, Shawn Dean; and her niece, Shanda Dean Lambert and husband, Lewis.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, and by J.R. McDonald.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Senior Care of Stonegate, and Legend Hospice for their devoted care.
