Dawn was a graduate of Washburn High School (Class of 1964) and attended the University of Minnesota. Having attended numerous grade schools in California, Colorado, and Minnesota Dawn was determined to give her children an anchor in Minnesota.

Dawn loved to dance, fish, ride horses, play the cello and flute, watch live music and the Vikings, knit, and read. She was a world-class seamstress who could have had a career on Broadway or in Hollywood. She made costumes for nearly every line in her dance studio.

Dawn had a big heart, no matter what obstacles she faced she would lend an ear to any lost soul. She was a 'Stage Mom' to countless musicians in the 60's and 70's and reportedly held all their secrets. Her empathy and kindness extended to her fellow dancers in the 80's, 90's and 2000's; she could calm the most nervous teenager or fix someone's costume in the seconds before going on stage.

Dawn worked for many years for Resource Inc. supporting programs that helped people join or rejoin the workforce. She especially enjoyed supporting "Women in Transition" where she could use her listening and counseling skills to help women better their lives.

Dawn loved to fish with her Father; she started when she was a young girl, and in their later years fished in a one-week tournament every summer. She could talk for hours with her Mother and Sister, Rochelle; they all shared a love of acting. Dawn and her Sister dreamed of traveling to Europe together. Dawn's biggest overseas adventure was traveling to Japan alone for her son Jeff's wedding to Mutsuko.

Dawn loved her husband, Roy, through thick and thin. Having survived him by 16 years she missed him greatly. Roy often said that Dawn was not only his wife but his best friend. She is dancing to his music now and forever.
Dawn was a loving and caring mother who supported her children in their every endeavor. She shared Phil's pursuit of knowledge, became interested in football by watching Jeff, and shared the love of dance with Keith. She was kind and gentle with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was always ready to show them one of her intricate creations.

Dawn's horse, Captain, was probably her first love. Captain was a 'show horse' who would do anything for Dawn. She could lay on Captain's back reading for hours as Captain walked around the ranch. This love for Captain extended to all her pets through the years. She showed the same care and love for plants and could nurse any plant back to life. She will be missed but not forgotten.

Preceded in death by her father, Charles Mateffy; mother, Katherine Mateffy; husband, Roy Hensley; and niece, Michelle Patton. Survived by sister, Rochelle Mateffy; sons, Phillip, Jeffery, and Keith Hensley; Daughters-in-law, Samantha and Mutsuko; grandchildren, Ashley, William, Joseph, Emily, and Andrew; great-grandchildren, Leoxander, Lilah, and Roy; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Memorial service will be at 1 pm (doors open at 12:30) on Monday, March 7, 2022 at Lakewood Memorial Chapel (3600 Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis, MN). Dawn requested no plants or flowers.
