Clarissa Ethel Horton was born in Vauxhall, NJ on January 7, 1926, to Ethel Sullivan Johnson and Leonard Johnson, Sr. She was one of six children, two brothers and three sisters who each preceded her in death. She and her siblings were raised on Beech St., Orange, NJ (the Valley). She attended the Orange School System. She was employed at Bell Telephone Company for many years in Irvington, NJ. She attended Bethel Baptist Church for many years under the leadership of Reverend White. When her family moved to South Jersey, she soon followed. Once there, she attended St. Matthew's Church in Lindenwold, NJ, under Pastor Raymond Gordon. Clarissa loved to read, especially mysteries. She played and won many bingo games and her favorite place to travel was the cruise to Alaska. She will be remembered for her direct, intelligent, respectful and kind nature. She consistently displayed a high level of integrity and humility. Once her health started declining her children James (Jay) and Tonda moved her to an Assisted living facility, Voorhees Senior Living in Voorhees, NJ, where she resided for three years. On Monday, March 21, 2022, she was placed into Samaritan Hospice Care in Voorhees. On Thursday, March 25, 2022, Clarissa received her wings. She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel A. Horton, her daughter Dorinda E. Roberts and daughter in law Marion Dortch.
