A native of Jackson County, he was a son of the late Lewis and Annie Cogdill Blanton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Freda Worley Blanton, who died in 2015, and a son, Joe Blanton. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Navy and retired from Norfolk Southern as an ASA Agent with 30 years of service. He was a member of Woodland Baptist Church and enjoyed camping and fishing.
Jim is survived by two sisters, Becky Israel and Marty Smith; one grandson, Todd Blanton; and one great-grandson, Brody Blanton.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday April 4, 2022, at Green Hill Cemetery with Reverend Alan Davis and Reverend Josh Frazier officiating.
