Gordon Trinkle was the son of John Trinkle and Mary Gordon.

He married Matilda Rutherford 23 Apr 1832 at Washington County, Indiana and together were parents to:

- Isabella Anna Trinkle
- Caroline Trinkle
- William Trinkle
- Louisa Jane Trinkle
- John Trinkle
- Anna Catherine Trinkle

In Oct 1857 Thomas Brittain, with Samuel Colglazier as security, was appointed guardian of William Trinkle, John Trinkle and Anna Catherine Trinkle, heirs of Gordon Trinkle of Washington County, Indiana, and heirs at law of William Rutherford, deceased. [Guardianships, 1820-1859, Washington County, Indiana; p.129]

After Matilda's death, Gordon moved to Marion County, Illinois where he and Elizabeth Garner had the following known children:

- Franklin Trinkle
- George Washington Trinkle
- Susan Josie Trinkle
- Sarah Margaret Trinkle
- Martha Jane Trinkle

Last record of Gordon was the 1880 census in which he was living with son George Washington and his wife Amanda in Marshfield, Webster, Missouri.
