Jimmy Dewayne Smith
Obituary

Jimmy Dewayne Smith of San Francisco, California was born on May 4, 1962 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Jimmy Earl Smith and Dorris Jean (Whitis) Smith Long. He passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 in his home at the age of 59 years.

Dewayne grew up in Norman, Oklahoma where he graduated from high school in 1980 and attended the University of Oklahoma (1987-1988) where he studied Fashion Design. In October of 1988 he moved to San Francisco with his then partner, Clay Hooper (1986-1998). Dewayne worked at Brass and Glass as a salesperson for four years and was extremely good at retail sales. In 1992 he began bartending at various San Francisco gay bars. In 1998 he met his long-term partner, Heath Pierce (1998-2022). He was a very talented artist and explored the areas of jewelry making, fashion design, photography, sketching, and water color. Most recently he built, tore down, and re-built a Lego tower lamp, another artistic medium to explore.

Dewayne was a people person, the kind of person who talked easily with others and made the person in front of him feel valued. He loved his cats Zuzu, Cali, Liv, and Tyler. He enjoyed reading and doing advanced Sudoku that would boggle most of our minds. He loved life and enjoyed participating in all aspects of it. Dewayne had a very big heart and was willing to help anyone in need. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved partner, Heath Pierce of San Francisco, California; parents, Dorris and Willie Long of Norman; and Jimmy Smith of Oklahoma City; brother, Willie Long and sister, Annette Long both of Norman, Oklahoma; his first partner, Clay Hooper; and several other relatives and friends.

Dewayne was preceded in death by his infant twin sisters, Brenda Kay Smith and Glenda Sue Smith; beloved aunts, Carolyn Sue Williamson and Patsy Jones; beloved uncle, Donald Whitis; six grandparents; and many other beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Winans Funeral Home Chapel, Maysville, Oklahoma under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, Oklahoma. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.winansfuneralhome.com.
