James Martin Rich died on March 30th, 2022 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was born on September 14th, 1935 in Sparta, TN. To Martin and Nannie Mae Rich.
James Rich is survived by wife of 66 ½ years, Dixie Wallace Rich, a daughter Karen, son in law Dave Elliott and Grandson's James and John Elliott.
Mr. Rich is preceded in death by a son, Tim Rich.
Mr. Rich lived a full life and grew up in a very musical family. As a young man, he went on the road with his Uncle, Lester Flatt setting up a 3 room tent for performances. At the age of 17, he traveled by himself to Detroit, Michigan looking for work. There he was trained as a welder. Later, Mr. Rich and family moved back to Tennessee and lived in Madison. James Rich worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority and was a member of the Pipe Fitters Union local 572. He retired in 1998.
Mr. Rich loved life and having a good time…especially with family. He was always positive and saw the "good" in everyone. He had a generous spirit and would help others whenever needed. He enjoyed travelling and especially camping. An accomplished bluegrass musician, he often played the guitar and mandolin around the campfire and be joined in by neighboring campers. You could always pick out his "high tenor" voice. Mr. Rich was a master Mason, a master Scottish Rite and member of Old Hickory Masonic Lodge #598. He loved to fish and spending time on the water.
Most of all, James Rich loved his family and spending time with his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A private burial will be held by immediate family, followed by a celebration of life at a later date.
