James Alvin Curtis passed away on March 1, 2022, at the age of 93. He was born on April 25, 1928, in Harlan, Iowa, the youngest in the family of four older sisters and a brother.

He graduated from Harlan high school and attended Iowa State University, where he joined the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. A year later, he enlisted in the US Navy and subsequently received his appointment to the US Military Academy West Point, where he graduated with a class of 1950. His 30-year career took him to many assignments around the world, including Korea, Vietnam, and Germany. He attended Stanford University and received his master's in business administration.

James was an avid golfer and won the Leipzig Pro-Am, the European Senior Championship, and represented his command on two occasions in the All-Army Tournament. He married Alison Stanley in 1990 and lived in Virginia until moving to Poway, California, in 2004. He was an active member of Stoneridge Country Club until it closed.

A memorial service is planned at Rosecrans National Cemetery on June 3rd. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in his name to the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
