Born September 20, 1948, Jan Marie Cook was daughter to
Frank Percy Cook (1915 NY - 1984 NC)
Eleanor Bishop Cook (1916 SC - 2010 NC)

Jan had one brother, Captain Glenn Richard Cook, who was shot down in 1969 while serving our country in Viet Nam. As Glenn was classified MIA, the Cooks never gave up hope that he would someday come home.

In August, 2014, Jan attended a monument ceremony at Garinger High School honoring Glenn and others who gave their lives in Viet Nam.

The Cook family attended Plaza Presbyterian Church where Frank was football coach. "Coach" was a nickname he carried throughout his life. Around this same time Jan attended Garinger High School and afterwards, was briefly married to Steve Bradley whose name she carried to her passing.

After Garinger, Jan earned her nursing degree and worked in the medical field for a few years. She opened a pet grooming business called "Perfect Paws" and was very successful at that and happy.Jan was also a member of a group called "Order of the Eastern Star", a group she loved and spent much time doing activities with.

In the mid 1980s, Jan's Dad Frank passed away, and from then on, she spent time taking care of her mother. Eleanor developed Alzheimers and needed constant attention. They moved to Florida near where Eleanor grew up. Eleanor passed away in 2010 and Jan remained in Florida until her passing in 2021.

A lifelong friend and dear soul, she is greatly missed here-but is watching us from up there. Jan, from all of us, we miss you and peace be with you til we all meet again.

Special thanks to Larry Walker and Don Thompson, earth angels who adopted Jan and made this celebration of her life come to be.
As Larry Walker said, "Jan became a dear friend to Don and me, these 7 years + since we dedicated the Garinger Memorial at the school.

We talked to her on the phone frequently, exchanged Christmas cards and sent her flowers at Christmas as well. We really connected with her in doing the service for Glenn in 2015. She was overwhelmed at the large turnout of folks at Glenn's special memorial service. We estimated 400 people there, and Jan said after the service that she was blown away at the number of folks who showed up to honor her brother.

It was obvious that she bore a deep grief over losing her brother. And the 2014 dedication of the Garinger Memorial, the service at Sunset Memory Gardens in 2015, and the Citadel War Memorial dedication in Oct 2017, all went a long way in helping assuage her grief, knowing many others cared. "Those 3 events were among the most meaningful emotional highlights of her life, to see Glenn's memory honored. She wanted folks to know that.

A Celebration of Life service for Jan will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, April 3rd at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, with the Pastor David Gales officiating. All are invited to join and honor her memory.
