DEATH OF HOWARD WALTER
Member of the Stock Exchange Since About 1870.
Mr. Howard Walker of the banking firm of Walter & Tucker, died at his home on Hereford st. Thursday afternoon, of typhoid pneumonia.
Mr. Walter, who was in his 47th year, was born in Philadelphia. Having received his early education in that city, he went to New York when quite young and became associated with his brothers in the wholesale coal business. The firm also had offices in Philadelphia and Boston and, after some time, Mr. Howard Walter came to this city as the representative of his firm.
Later on he joined the firm of Anthony, Poor & Oliphant of New York, becoming likewise the Boston member of that firm in the brokerage business.
He became a member of the stock exchange about 1879. Three years ago he became a joint partner with Mr. William A Tucker in the banking and brokerage business, in which he was engaged up to the time of his death.
About 10 years ago Mr. Walter married a daughter of Admiral Luce of the United States Navy, and Mrs. Walter survives him.

This is a wedding announcement for them:
Boston Post, Boston, Massachusetts, 17 Nov 1881, Thursday, pg 1:
The Walter-Luce Wedding at Newport, R.I.
The wedding of Mr. Howard Walter, a well-known banker and broker of Boston, and son of Mr. Edwin Walter of Philadelphia, and Miss Caroline Luce, daughter of Capt. Stephen Bleecker Luce, United States navy, the commander of the naval training station, the headquarters of which are in Newport harbor, took place in Trinity church, Newport, on Wednesday. The bride is a granddaughter of Commodore John D. Henley, who was a nephew of Gen. Washington. Commodore Henley was one of three distinguished officers who married the three Misses Dennison--Commodore John Rogers and Commodore Alexander Wadsworth being the other two. In this way the bride is related to some of our oldest and most distinguished naval families. To the wedding several hundred invitations were issued, and a large proportion of them were answered in person, as the attendance at the church this morning proved. The altar was very prettily decorated with choice flowers. The guests began to arrive about noon, the ceremony being fixed to begin half an hour later. By this time a distinguished company of naval officers and citizens had arrived. Upon the entrance of Miss Luce, leaning upon the arm of her father, the whole congregation arose, and the bride, who made a most interesting picture, became the cynosure of all eyes. The officiating clergyman was the rector of the church, Rev. George J. Magill. Among those present were Admiral Reed Worden United States navy; Mrs. Worden; Lieut. Commander E.M. Stedman, Mrs. Stedman; Commander A.D. Brown, Mrs. Brown; Capt. P.C. Johnson, United States navy, Mrs. Johnson; Lieut. Commander C.E. Clark, Lieut. Commander G.T. Davis, Lieut. A. Marix, Commander E.M. Shepard, Lieut. A. P. Nazro, United States navy; Commander H.C. Taylor, Lieut. J.C. Soley, United States navy; Lieut. William McCarty Little, Mrs. Little; Commander W.B. Hoff, Lieut. Commander A.S. Snow.
