Elsie "Mom" Lathrop, 90, of Gladwin, died July 3, 1997 at Mid Michigan Regional Medical Center - Gladwin. Born Sept. 8, 1906 in Melvin, Michigan to George and Anna Bubel DaFoe, she married Joseph Lathrop III March 31, 1928 in Sandusky. Her life with Rev. Lathrop took her many places. Besides being a teacher in the public school system, the couple founded the Good News Camp in 1945 and the Deckerville Bible Church. They were missionaries in Alaska. and interim pastorate in Mexico City. They came to Gladwin in 1958.
Elsie is survived by one son, Joseph and wife Sylvia Lathrop IV of Gladwin; two daughters, Carolyn and husband James Fromer of Gladwin, and Harriet and husband Rev. Winston Decker of Bridgman; one foster son, James Main of St. Martin; eleven grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Jacobs of Cadillac and Donna Andrews of Flint. She was preceded in death by her husband, one granddaughter, one great grandson and one brother, Clare DaFoe.
Services will held at 1 p.m. July 4 at Good News Camp with Rev. James VanNoord, Rev. Robert Brown and Rev. Tony Alexander officiating. Burial Was in McClure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Good News Camp. Arrangements were handled by Sisson Funeral Home. Gladwin County Record dated 7-9/1997 Column – 2 Page – 2.
