He was elected to U S Congress in 1950 and served from January 3, 1951 until January 3, 1965. He lost a re-election bid in 1964 to Democrat Joseph Y. Resnick. He died in 1990 in Summit,Schoharie County New York.Buried in the Turk plot of the Cobleskill Rural Cemetary.
