MARCUS B. L. GILLELAND, son of George Washington and Sarah Ann Brock Gilleland, he was born November 08, 1847 in Hall County,Georgia, and died January 13, 1917 in Hall County, Georgia. He married (1) FRANCES MARIAM CHAPMAN , daughter of JOSEPH CHAPMAN and EMMALINE COVINGTON. She was born February 10, 1846 in Hall County, Georgia, and died October 08, 1887 in Hall County, Georgia; they had one daughter, Della. He married (2) NANCY JANE PURSLEY August 18, 1886 in Hall County, Georgia, daughter of WILLIAM PURSLEY and MARY. She was born October 1870 in Georgia. Marcus B. L. Gilleland entered service in May of 1864 in Jackson County, Georgia. Company K, Young's Battalion. He was at home on sick furlough at the time of surrender. Cause for pension-infirmity and poverty. Witness- J.A. Elrod Jr., J.N. Rogers. Marcus was paid $60.00 1908-1916, 1917 paid $70.00 for funeral expenses. Hall County Tax Digest 1909-1920 "Confederate Veterans of Hall County" by Patricia K. Jones. 11th Regiment, GA Cavalry. In his obituary it stated that he had been a citizen of the county for a number of years, where he had won the love and esteem of a host of friends by his cordiality, honesty and strong character. He served the cause of the Confederacy in the sixties, and was a staunch and brave defender of the Lost Cause.

There is no headstone for Marcus and the burial place for his wife Nancy is unknown.
