Mary S. O'Bannon, daughter of Elizabeth B. (née Garton) and Benjamin Franklin O'Bannon, was born in 1860 in Elk Fork Township, Pettis County, Missouri, where her family farmed. Her grandfather, William O'Bannon, was a county entryman, obtaining in 1835 a patent for 40 acres.

Mollie O'Bannon and Harrison Ewers, both of Pettis County, were married on 25 December 1883 in that county in the bride's father's home. The couple were the parents of Benjamin Clifford, and a second child (who apparently died young). The couple farmed in the county until about 1932, when they retired to Kansas City, Missouri.
