Christopher Gist, was buried on his dwelling-plantation of 320 acres, "Utopia" now "Rebecca's Delight," Northside Patapsco River below Gwins Falls near a point by a great marsh and Thomas Cromwell's plats, "Duck Cove," & "Davids Fancy". (see attached map)

I Christopher Guest of Baltemore County being weak in body -- but of good and perfect memory - thanks to G. and calling to membrance the uncertain estate of this transitory life and that all of us must yield unto death, when it shall please God to call -- do make constitute fordaine and declare this my l.w. & t. -- Therefore I give my dearly beloved wife full power to receive all debts owing unto her and likewise to pay all debts -- and being paid I give her full power to dispose of all my lands and goods -- and when disposed, the same to be equally divided between my beloved wife and child, she being my only exr in this my L.W. "Christopher Gist was born of English, Wales descent, He immigrated to the US. and died in Baltimore County, in 1691. His wife was Edith Cromwell, who died in 1694.

They had one child, Richard, who was a surveyor of the Western shore, and was one of the commisioners in 1729, for laying off Baltimore Town, and was Presiding magistrate in 1736. In 1705 he marrried Zipporah Murray. Richard marrried and settled in South Carolina and was soon killed at the Battle of Kings Mountain.

Christopher Gist, one of his [Richard's] sons, because of his knowledge of the Country on the Ohio and his skill in dealing with the Indians, was chosen to accompany George Washington on his mission in 1753. He was with Washington in crossing the Delaware. It was from his journal that all subsequent historians derive their account of that expedition. Christopher married Sarah Howard who was the second daughter of Joshua and Joanna O'Carroll Howard and had four children.

(1) Nancy who died unmarried, and
(2) Thomas,
(3) Nathaniel and
(4) Richard.

Christopher with his sons Nathaniel and Richard, was with Braddock on the fatal field of the Monomgahela, and for his services received a grant of 12,000 acres of land from the King of England."
