George "Giggy" Gardner, 59, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2022. He was born January 13, 1963 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, son of the late George M. and Leddie Jane (Johnson) Gardner.

George was a veteran of the US Navy. He was a longtime Teacher and Coach at South Dearborn Schools. He helped coach football, track, and soccer. He was the head coach for 32 years of the South Dearborn Wrestling team and was influential in making the South Dearborn Wrestling program what it is today. He loved everything science and nature. He created the Splash Trip and also the Science Camp in the summer. He enjoyed scuba diving, traveling the world, stargazing, and biking.

He is survived by his 2 daughters, Sierra (DeMarco Groves) Gardner of Bloomington, IN, Rylee Lynn Gardner of Bloomington, IN; his brother, Martin J. Gardner of Granger, IN; his sister, Jill M. (Jeff Fassold) Grady of Greendale, IN; one grandson, DeMarco Groves III; 2 nephews, Dr. Justin M. (Kirsten) Gardner and Cody M. Grady; 3 nieces, Hailey L. Gardner, Alex Marie (Gunnar) Ernst, Pacey Fassold; 2 great nieces, Italia Grady and Shiloh Ernst; great nephew, Roman Grady.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George M. and Leddie Jane Gardner.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, April 3, 2022 from 5 pm to 8 pm at the South Dearborn High School Gymnasium, 5770 Highland Place, Aurora, Indiana 47001. Funeral services will be held at the Greendale First Church of Christ, 421 Ridge Ave, Greendale, Indiana on Monday, April 4, 2022 at 10 am.

Interment will follow in the Greendale Cemetery, Greendale, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness-Indiana (NAMI), PAWS, or the Red Wolf Animal Sanctuary.
