Obituary of Doris Ann Robinson
IN THE CARE OF
Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Mortuary & Memorial Gardens
On Monday, January 31, 2022, Doris Ann Maxwell Robinson of Phoenix, AZ., the kind, giving, and loving spirit of our sister went to join our Savior in that home, not built with hands, but whose maker and builder is God.
Doris was the second oldest of eight children. She was born April 20, 1939, in Gatesville, TX to late Bernice Hadnot and the late Willie Maxwell. As a young child, the family relocated from Winslow High School. Doris was raised in the St. Paul A.M.F., Methodist Church and at an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord & Savior.
After High School, Doris worked in Winslow, AZ, then she met and later married the late Roscoe Robinson. They decided to move the family to Los Angeles, CA, where Doris attended college and pursued her career goal as a Nurse. She worked at the VA Hospital in Los Angeles, CA. Her career as a nurse was short. Then, Doris spend several years working at the Teledyne Electronics in CA.
In the late 70's, the entire family moved to Phoenix, AZ, to be near her family. Doris pursed her passion as a Beauty Consultant with Broadway department store for several years. This passion led her and her brother Jerry to own and operate 7th St Beauty Supply and Salon of Phoenix, AZ. After many years as an entrepreneur Doris retired. She realized retiring was not her cup of tea. She decided to return to work part-time as a Test Admin/Proctor for Prometric Inc., where she loved working with testers, future doctors, nurses, etc., helping to encourage them.
In 1984, Doris, her daughter Roseanne, and her mother Bernice began attending Antioch Missionary Baptist Church (AMBC) in its early days of transitioning to a new building. They united under the leadership of the late Dr. L.L. Smith. After Dr. L.L. Smith retired, Doris remained a member under Rev. Isaac Pitre, Sr. She faithfully watched Sunday morning worship on Facebook until God called her home.
Doris loved life and cherished her family. She demonstrated her love and opened her home to everyone and took it to heart, her mother saying, "if you have a loaf of bread then your siblings have a loaf of bread." Doris loved and admired her grandchildren. She was very proud of them, their accomplishments, and loved having them around her. We witnessed her faithfulness and remembered her as a blessing to everyone.
Doris loved to read and research the Bible, general history, and genealogical research. She was a member of Black Family Genealogy & History Society of Phoenix, AZ. In her leisure time, she liked to read novels, the Bible & medical books, watching soap operas, movies and playing games on her tablet.
Doris will be deeply missed as our matriarch, role model, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin, and a friend. More importantly, she loved and belonged to our Lord Jesus Christ.
Doris was preceded in death by her infant Baby Boy Robinson, her mother Bernice, father Willie, sister Rosetta, brothers, Leonard, Tommy, and Larry.
She leaves to cherish fond memories, four children, Juanita (Harvey) Irving of Phoenix, AZ. Roseanne (James) Robinson Williams of Maricopa, AZ. Kenneth (Linda) Robinson of Laveen, AZ, and Jasmine Robinson of Phoenix, AZ.
She also leaves grandchildren, Kristen Irving, Tyrone Fraley Robinson, Brandon Irving, and Joshua Cuspard Robinson. Great grandchildren Miela, Teagan, and Remy Fraley. Her siblings Jerry of Phoenix, AZ,
