Johannes Heinrich married Anna Christina Rühl on December 23, 1830, in Oberkleen. Seven children were born in Germany:

Johannes, Christina, and their three surviving children (Elisabetha, Katharina, Heinrich) immigrated to Canada West (now Ontario) in 1846. They settled in Waterloo Township, making their home at Waldau (now located at the intersection of Trussler Road and Highland Road West, Kitchener, Ontario).
Two children were born in Canada West:
- William (1846-1910)
- Anna (1848-1926)
Christina predeceased Johannes Heinrich in January 1878. He died on May 29 1886, at the age of 82 years.
