Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
Laura Elizabeth Parrott was born in Pollock, SD. She was the second of eight children born to Charles and Ella (Searl) Parrott. Following high school graduation in 1941, she attended St Luke's School of Nursing, graduating as an RN. On a visit to Mellette with a classmate she met her future husband, Lester Dennis. They were wed on June 2, 1945 and began their married life on the farm where they raised their daughter.
Laura began her nursing career as a special duty nurse and then as a part time floor supervisor for over 25 years at St Luke's. She enjoyed entertaining her bridge and birthday clubs. In later years she would occasionally invite the coffee group to her home for morning coffee. She attended the Northwestern United Methodist Church where she was an active participant helping to organize the annual rummage sale. One of her proudest community accomplishments was helping to secure a Governor's House for the Northwestern Spink Senior Center. For over 70 years she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. During the years she spent quiet time doing beautiful embroidery projects. Laura was always ready to attend her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's school programs and sporting events.
Laura is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Donna and Jim Boekelheide, three grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren; Tami (Ryan) Henke and children, (Sam and Ali), Chad (Kris) Boekelheide and children, (Derek, Hailey, Jessica, Ella), Scott (Heidi) Boekelheide and children, (Ethan and Ty); sisters, Sharon Harris and Shirley Peugh; and sister-in-law Bev Parrott.
Preceded in death by her husband Lester on March 26, 2012; sister, Hermine (Art) Roberts; brothers, Charles (Carol) Parrott, George, Roger and Sherman; and brother-in-law, Richard Harris.
