Ruth Thomas Jackson
August 30, 1923 - March 14, 2022

Ruth Thomas Jackson was born to the late Rev. Robert Thomas and Minnie B. Pinkett in Bridgeville, Delaware on August 30, 1923. She and her nine siblings grew up in a house filled with love and laughter. Her early education was in the public schools in Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Delaware State College in 1946 and further study at the University of Delaware where she received a Master of Education and additional post-graduate credits. Ruth taught English at Delaware Laboratory High School for thirty-one years, she had the privilege of doing what she loved best....teaching. She taught in the Absalom Jones School, the Marshallton-McKean School District, and the Red Clay Consolidated School District.

Since graduating from Delaware State College, Ruth has been a loyal member of the Alumni Association and a life member of the Natiourch. chnal Association. During her tenure as president of the New Castle County DSU Alumni Chapter, the membership was at its highest level.

Ruth loved the Lord and her church. A member of Community Presbyterian Church, she was an Elder, Deaconess, and a Director of Youth Fellowship, teacher of Vacation Bible School, President, Vice President and Historian of Presbyterian Women. She was also a life member of her beloved Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Ruth was married to the late Gilbert H. Jackson, Jr., a 1948 graduate of Delaware State College. She is survived by her brother, Nathan Thomas of Philadelphia, a son, Gilbert, lll, a daughter, Sheryll Slade, a grandson, Sean Slade, two great granddaughters, Alasia Slade and Brieauhna Robinson, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday April 6, 2022 at 11 am at Community Presbyterian Church, 519 Rogers Road. New Castle, DE 19702. AKA service will be held at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Gilbert "Slew" Jackson, Jr. and Ruth T. Jackson Scholarship Athletics Endowment, Delaware State University Foundation, Inc. Interment, Delaware Veterans Cemetery. Masks are required.

Wilmington - Ruth T. Jackson, of Wilmington, died on Monday March 14, 2022 after a brief illness.

Service will be held on Wednesday April 6, 2022, 11am, Community Presbyterian Church, 519 Rogers Rd. New Castle, DE 19720. An AKA service will be held at 10:30am.
