Norma J. Murphy – age 92, of Pocahontas, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at the Pocahontas Manor Care Center in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Norma Jean Boswell was born on March 20, 1929, in Kankakee, Illinois. She was the daughter of Donald and Juanita (Crump) Boswell. Norma graduated from Humboldt High School in 1947. In 1948, Norma was united in marriage to James Murphy at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Humboldt. The couple settled on a farm between Pomeroy and Palmer where they farmed. In addition to raising her family and helping on the farm Norma later worked as an aide at the Pomeroy Care Center.

Norma was a member of Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church. She was a past member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, arts and crafts and was a great cook.

Survivors include her children, Jeanne (Thomas) Pigsley, John (Jenny) Murphy, Pat (Rhonda) Murphy, Dennis Murphy and Tim Murphy; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren and a sister, Millicent "Milly" (Mike) Chapman of Humboldt.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Deb (Murphy) Zeman; two sisters, Phyllis Delle and Donna Busko and an infant brother, August Duane Boswell.Obituary, Powers Funeral Home
