Rev. David William Schroeder

Stockton - Rev. David William Schroeder, formerly of Stockton, CA passed away, surrounded by his daughters, on February 25, 2022, in Clovis, CA. He was born on November 25, 1938, to Max and Gladys Schroeder in Pontiac, Michigan. David grew up in Pontiac, but at a very young age, had a "calling" to be a Minister. At 14, he left his home to move to Milwaukee, WI where he began a 6-year program at Concordia Lutheran. After completing his undergraduate degree, he went to Senior College in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. It was there that he met the love of his life, Beverly Ann Bender. Dave and Bev were married on August 26, 1962. Dave graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri in 1965 and was ordained as a Lutheran Minister in April 1965. Dave was a wonderful Pastor who was loved by all of the congregations he served in New Plymouth, ID, Weiser, ID, Albany, OR, Fresno, CA, Manteca, CA, Reno, NV, and finally settled in at Zion Lutheran Church in Stockton, CA.

Outside of his ministerial duties, he enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, watching his daughters with pride through high school and college graduations, and many different sports. He enjoyed woodworking and was a talented woodworker who made furniture and many other items for his family and friends. He was a gifted musician who played trombone, tenor sax, bassoon, guitar and was gifted with a gorgeous bass voice.

David also joined the U.S. Naval Reserves in August 1962. He was a chaplain serving the Navy and Marines and loved every experience. He retired as a Captain (06) in 1993. Serving his country by serving the troops was his passion.

David was predeceased by his loving wife, Beverly Ann. Beverly passed away on February 20, 2019. They had been married 56 years. Beverly's remains will be buried with David. David passed away listening to the Hallelujah Chorus. Dave outlived Bev by 3 years and 5 days. He was also proceeded in death by his parents Max and Gladys Schroeder, older sisters, Peggy Jo Schroeder, Maxine Garnett, and brother-in-law, Bill Younk.

Rev. Schroeder is survived by daughter Gloria (Schroeder) Zion and her husband, Jim, grandchildren Madison (Christiansen) Van Der Kooi (Daniel) and Makenna Christiansen, (Cal LaFlam), Tyler Zion, and Sarah Zion. Burial with full military honors will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, in Dixon, CA.
