He was born June 28, 1943 in Alleghany County, Virginia to the late Len Crew and Virginia Etta Matheny Higgins.
He was a self-employed woodcutter.
He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Robert "Burt" Higgins, Ray Higgins, David Higgins, Jimmy Higgins, and Grover Higgins; and a sister, Mary Ann Higgins Carroll.
He is survived by five sisters, Kay Nichols and husband, Lee, Janie Lawhorn, and Jeanette Angle, all of Clifton Forge, Marie Lawhorn of Roanoke, and Eva Tucker and husband, Buzzy of Covington; two brothers, Jack Higgins, and girlfriend, Kathleen Brookman, and Len "Bugs" Higgins, Jr., both of Clifton Forge; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Mr. Kenny Carroll officiating. Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge.
Eugene's nieces will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
